On 13th August, H.B. Gregórios III, Patriarch of Antioch and all of East, of Alexandria and Jerusalem of the Melkites, visited the Christ the Redeemer in the Mount of Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, during his pastoral visit.
Translation of the video:
Good night!
The Patriarch of the Greek-Melkite Catholic Church has chosen one of the 7 wonders of the world as place of farewell of the "cariocas" (gentilic of Rio de Janeiro). The Patriarch Gregory III was received with feast by the faithful.
Enchanted with the monument beauty, the Patriarch Gregorios III dispensed the elevator and climbed the steps on foot. The representant of the Melkite Church in Brazil, Mgr Farès Maakaroun, was surprised with the Patriarch's decision:
- He's a 77 years old man, who ended by climbing step by step and singing in each step a different carol. A 77 years old man! He was flying in the end!
The Patriarch prayed in the Chapel with the sound of chantings.
To finish his passage in the "Cidade Maravilhosa" gave a message to the Brazilians:
- The Christ in this mount is calling, attracting all the Brazilians to climb upon the sky!
