Second testdrive of my Manta. This time the engine is running as it should. During break in of the engine no boost is used, therfore I use no intercooler right now. The camera exaggerate the valvenoise by about 5000% for some reason, the engine is quite quiet IRL.

  • You people from Sweden are really Rock'n Roll. Will you take me for a ride if I come to visit your country one day? Greets from Manta- Homeland!

  • @rosenscharf Thanks for the comment :) Maybe some day when the car is completley finished It will be possible, at a trackday of course ;)

  • nice car man kinda looks like my e30

  • Thanks :-)

Its about the same weight as the E30, but the BMW has a more modern suspention with its McPerson in front and independent rear axle.

  • a toyota engine in a manta? hmm maybe not a bad idea but i dont like it...

  • Thanks a lot for your reply Herman :)

You had the c30ne, that IS heavy indeed, because the cylinder head is made of cast iron... while on the c30se, it's made of aluminium, therefore, the c30se is not only stronger, but also lighter :)

C30XEI is 230 PS with 280 Nm of torque! I am installing a lightly tuned c30se... I will see how it goes with the nose... I will use Mantzel springs, they have been said to be really good for this conversion... But it'll take some time, as I have ran out of money

  • nice 7M very clean!!

  • A complete 7M-GTE, with inlet manifold, exhaust, turbo, alternator etc.etc. its about 200kg. Still cast-iron block, but its very small compared to a Opel straight six.

  • I actually put a complete 12v cast-iron head on the bathroom scale and it was 52kg I think. For the C30 conversion I used standard GS/I springs in the front and H&R i the back. Then Bilstein rally dampers front and rear. All bushings are polyurethane.

But now with the much lighter Toyota engine I must switch to H&R lowering springs in the front also.

This project is going slowly for me to right now because I lost my job in April.

  • how heavy is the 7M-GTE ? If it is all made of aluminium I guess it's much lighter ;)

My C30SE is about 230 Kg, while the normal 2.0 CIH engine is 150! (+80 Kilos than the factory standard, and they are all going in FRONT of the wheels!!!!).

    Enjoy your Manta :D

Check out my profile to see my ascona :)

  • No worries, its ok to be annoying ;-)

Before this engine I had a slighly tuned C30NE in the car.

The problem with that was its weight, the car became very nose-heavy.

The Toyota engine is very light, and its long stroked compared to Opels short stroked engines. Other good things its chep to build a "bulletproof" engine compared if you do the same thing with a C30.

Despite that I think its more Cool, or what you call it, to have a high performance Opel CIH/DOHC cast-ironblock in an Opel.

  • Ok, I know I will be very annoying for asking and sorry for that :)

But why not an Opel engine like a c30se, c40se or c30xei, straight-six? or a c36get off a lotus omega?

I guess the answer is easy, most likely you "already had that engine" ? :)

    I'm preparing a c30se 3.0 24v straight-six ascona here...

    Nice Manta btw :)

  • good choise!

  • Yes, its an 7M-GTE from a Supra mk.III - 88

  • That is an engine coming from the toyota supra is think?

  • is it ok to run a turbo without boost? wouldnt the turbines over-speed due to no restriction?

  • Very good engine in the best car from Opel.

  • Thanks, Im from Sweden

  • Nice Manta. What country are you from

  • Sounds cool, when the holset turbo gets on, it for real goes wild :D

  • Right now the engine is running with the wastegate fully open at all times. When the engine has been "run in" the boost going to be raised at least to original 0.5bar.

The snow just disapeard here so soon I can start drive the car fo real.

Then we will see what happens for next year. I have a brand new Holset HX40 laying around. The goal is around 500hp and a very "drivable" engine that works both on the street and on a racetrack.
