its actually easier for musicians to perform if the music is memorized. the better the musician you are, the easier it is to memorize music

point being, no matter how good you are, you can't memorize something you've never seen.

@soccergirl8282 Actually, it wouldn't be that hard just as long as he knows the key signature and what kind of blues scales or whatever to use, then he could improv the whole time if he wanted, and we would never know.
