long periods of being on your back is not good after your first trimester but short exercuses is fine.

and specifically about your question why it's necessary to do partial sit-up with diastasis, is basically to strenghten the abdominal muscle, as i mention a while ago, it play's a very important role in stabilizing the back muscle, to be more specific " to prevent low back pain "... suggestion's are welcome...

diastasis recti is partial separation of the abdominal muscle(vertical line in the rectus abdominis muscle particularly the LInea Alba),while abs muscle provide support/stabilize your back during movement transition, what happen is the abdominal muscle is streched so it can't further stabilize your back...usually if the separation is <2cm you can do partial sit-up with abdominal splintting,to protect the muscle and prevent furher sepation of the diastasis...
