Charity Case; A Mini Nelena Story pt. 2

Sorry it's been SO LONG! Ah! Don't shoot!

"So..." I said, hoping to break the silence.
"We can't go to my house," he sharply said.
"Why not?" I asked.
"We just can't, okay?" he retorted.
"But we can't go to mine either."
"Why not?"
"Reasons I can't tell you," I said quietly, avoiding eye contact.
"What are we supposed to do then?"
"We can go to the park?" I suggested.
"I guess..."
"It's a deal. But we have to stop by my house first so I can drop off my brother."
"Whatever." This is the side of him I hated.

After school we walked to my house in silence.
"How long are you going to be gone, Charity?" Matt asked me.
I looked over at Nick and he just shrugged.
"Do you have a phone?" I asked Nick.
"Yeah," he replied. Just as he said that, we arrived at my house.
"Wait here," I said to the both of them. They nodded. I walked up to the front door. I put my left ear on the door and listened. Silence. Good.My parents aren't home. I looked over at Matt and Nick. Nick looked confused. I waved at Matt to come. Once he did, I opened the door.
"I'll try to get home as soon as I can," I handed him my phone. "Here. I'll call you to check up on you every once in a while." Matt was 12 years old,so he was capable of taking care of himself. "Be safe." He nodded and walked inside. I turned to Nick and walked up to him. "Let's go."

We worked for about 30 minutes then I used Nick's phone to check up on Matt. "Hey, are mom and dad home yet?"
"No, but they should be home any minute now." he sounded a bit worried.
"Don't worry. We're almost done."
"Okay. Hurry up."
"I'll try. Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up and got back to work.
"Why do you have to check up on him? Is he some sort of wuss?" Nick asked.
"Shut up! Don't ever talk about him like that. You can say all you want about me, but NEVER speak like that about Matt again! You got it?!"
"Okay. Whatever Mrs.--" he got interrupted by the sound of his phone ringing. He took it out of his pocket sand looked at the caller ID. He handed it to me. "It's for you."
