Johanna Act II audio performed by the original cast on opening night (March 1, 1979). Some of it is skipped, but it's rare to hear Victor Garber's performance live.

Cast:
Sweeney Todd - Len Cariou
Anthony - Victor Garber
Johanna - Sarah Rice
Beggar Woman - Merle Louise
The Beadle - Jack Eric Williams

Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

  • did they clap when he first used the chair?

  • @BWombat12 Yes...I don't think the audience was expecting it to happen. It must have been quite a shocker.

  • i love victor garber's singing, but did he have to play my least favorite part in this musical??

  • That is not even Victor Garber...I mean, I know it's him, but...wow. I can't imagine that voice coming out of him now. Thanks for posting!

  • I was seriously just sitting and watching Alias with victor garber. When I stumbled over this. I'm about to throw myself into a wall.. jesus christ is this really the victor garber i THINK?!

  • I wish there were some bootlegs of this.

  • Oh my goodness. This is amazing! Thank you for sharing! I was surprised by just how fast the tempo was -- the Beggar Woman, especially, must have had to practice like crazy (er, no pun intended) to enunciate all of her words so quickly! Len Cariou's voice gives me chills; it makes me want to cry with pity for him, and still run and hide FAR away at the same time. Victor Garber sounds so young and sweet! And the "madhouse" shrills and cries are marvelously unsettling. Again, thanks!
