Are you freaking stupid? AR-Kansas wouldn't know a band if it hit them in the face. Northwestern State would kill this band. If you really disagree then bring it. Lets shut up and let the bands to the talking.
The Sudler Trophy is supose to be awarded for the "highest standards in musical standards, innovative marching routines and contributions". Why is it that there are SEVERAL marching bands on there that dont represent the musical and marching side well, at all. I agree it is a popularity contest and who has most exposure. All names on the list since 1982 are big name universities that have the most exposure. Try other and smaller universities, I KNOW they would find something better!
It is sad that the Sudler Trophy has evolved over the years into a "popularity contest"...all the "big schools" are gonna get their turn.
UMass, James Madison & FAMU are current IAA members who have won the Sudler. A few others that are every bit, if not more so, as worthy from a music standpoint are Jacksonville St.(Alabama), University of Delaware, Northwestern St.(Louisiana), Coastal Carolina.
Not to take anything away from the Sudler Trophy, but check the criteria. Musical quality is just one factor. Spirit and contribution to the sport and to the university as a whole is a major component. No-one will every argue with the Razorback Band's spirit or contribution!
There are some college band programs in this country that are a major step above anything Arkansas has to offer - that have not received that award.
It is the spirit of the 'Back Band that I have always had respect for.
the U of A band performs at all home games and performs at the Little Rock games as well, although we only send a pep band to away games we still go to SEC championship(when we're in it!) and our bowl game. And if musical Quality was an issue than we would have never won our 2006 Sudler Trophy!!!!

I can confirm that the UCA Fight Song does indeed come from the trio section of Karl King's "Purple Pageant.

I am not a UCA grad/student but the melody of their fight song comes from a march by Karl King called The Purple Pageant...from the trio to be exact.
