  • Also, loved the radio. Great touch. I thought the guy on the bike was drunk.

  • We drove these roads with our son who is in the Army in December 2009 just before his wedding. I can't wait to go back. Thanks for posting.

  • Was stationed at Hindenburg Kaserne 1983 to 1985 as USMCA Ansbach postal clerk. I still keep in touch with my German friends there. Sat at Stamtish at the "Bistro", by the first big church, which is now a heavy metal place I think. My building where i was billited is still there in back of Mall they built. The two red brick ones. I lived third floor on the far right building of the two. Great Memories!

  • Made that same drive myself several times! I've been back to Ansbach since I got out... most fun I've ever had, and A 6-52 was the best unit I was ever in. Burger King was still there in 2007, and I also made the hour long drive to Wurzburg for Taco Bell every weekend!

Thank you, marzli. Good trip down memory lane! (BTW... for the older troops, now Nurnberg and Frankfurt both have a Pizza Hut and several Burger King/McDonalds spots available.)

  • @Horzzo I rember driving to wuerzberg just to go to the PX

  • thank you so much i live ther in 2004 and i miss it so much, Ansbach, katterbach, bamberg, schweinfurt, wuerzburg, kitzigen.

  • I was stationed in Katterbach 1996-98. The post was completely open until the embasy bombings in Kenya. After that they fenced and gated everything off to only US personnel. There was a Burger King just one building over from my barracks. I recall taking many trips to Wurzburg to get some Taco Bell. It's funny how we long for those things from home, no matter how bad they really are.

    Good times!

  • Lockbar: Cafe Schmidt that was. And the Black Bear right next. I bet you remember the Florida bar also.

  • Lockbar,

I was there 76-79. We didn't have BurgerKing either....we did the drive to Nurnburg to McDonalds too. Post Gasthaus in Lichtenau is where I mainly went for Cordon Bleu.

I do remember guys mentioning Schwabach Karen but for the life of me I can't remember the details....was too funny hearing that name again!

  • Marzli,

Thanks a bunch for the video...I sent it to a lot of the guys who were also there....they dug it.

    Ron
