An attempt to make a brief space scene in 3D Studio Max. I have little experience, so naturally this is a very amateur animation.

Followed this tutorial for the basics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGcToM_DyKU and then played around until I had something interesting.

Up close, the atmosphere and textures obviously don't look that great. I like the end result, though. Be sure to watch in high quality.

My current goal is to understand how to achieve the aesthetic quality of this animation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uryVhMmyH3g

  • You need more subdivisions on that sphere.

  • @razzthefreak How do you know it is too close and too small by looking at this?

  • the moon is too close and too small. but otherwise amazing

  • Sweet. How big are your textures?

  • Aside from being able to see the Earth with a polygonal horizon at the beginning, very well done!

  • amateur? more like professional! well done!
