I really like this classic Khmer song from Pan Ron. The song has the same tune as "Yellow River" by the band Christie. There is also a French version called "L'Amérique" from Joe Dassin. The video shows clips from the classic film Apsara.

  • As a westerner who recently discovered this classic "Khmer Rock", I am absolutely amazed at how beautiful the vocals are and how well it was combined with the classic "60s/70s Western Rock" music.

Respect to these Khmer classic rockers!!!

At the same time, I am deeply saddened that virtually all of these wonderful artists were killed by the Khmer Rouge... :-(

Does anyone know: Would I be able to find these original albums for sale in Phnom Penh? Please, someone let me know, and thanks!!

  • It can be very hard to find the original albums - in Phnom Penh you can easily find the songs in compilations, but often they have added beats. You may want to contact youtube user canelsereyvuth, who has a great collection of classic unedited songs and who lives in PP, so you may get some good advice on how to find them. There are so many great songs, and there are always more to discover, that is part of the fun of this music. Good luck :-D

  • I dont think even ros sothea could sing this particular song so well, pan ron has an fineness and subtlety in her voice that's spendid in this song. It's made my day!

  • Who's that very elegant looking girl in the green dress, her hair in a French Twist, with a bottle figure? She's pretty.

  • cambodian people have so much class back then. i wish i lived and died in that era.

  • I love this song it's so amazing.

Us Cambodian have amazing talent !!

  • Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like this kind. I think this kind of people who dance like that would make Pol Pot too much headaches. He will order all of them to the killing field. PP has no Education at all. He failed the Exams when he studied in France..then he came back home to become the Killer.

  • love this song and bass sound. awsome!!!!!!!!

  • come on, during that time there was no digital mixer and the voice was this good

  • I've never heard of this singer from my mom except the famous male singer of the 60s Sinn Sisamouth, but I love her beautiful voice & the mix with the western beats & attire of western culture of that time...a little background: I am born & raised in California, but I am of Cambodian & Chinese & Vietnamese heritage...I love digging up the past because it's such a mystery ... I love how the culture here is the same in Cambodia, but unfortunately the genocide of the 70s stole it away
