As presented to David Letterman - Sunshine, the dog, will read signs and do what they say! Don't you think he should be on Letterman?

  • @elgagalari Children also have incentive. Their incentive is the desire to learn. You can teach dogs without treats, because they have a desire to please, but it's more difficult than with.

  • @meohminecraft I feel like we are turning around in circles. The difference between the reading of a child and the learning by association of a dog is that if you take away the incentive that was induced to lead to a certain behaviour the dog will no longer be able to "read". i don't want to say that this dog is stupid, but it's obviously not real reading what it is doing. Read about operant conditioning if you don't belive me.

  • @elgagalari To read is to "look at and comprehend the meaning of written or printed matter". They see the whole word as one symbol. To us, we see "sit" and we read it aloud and it has meaning to us. To the dog, they see it and it means the action. Children learn many words by association, are you going to say that they can't read as well? >_>;

  • @meohminecraft nope, it's learning by associations. The difference between real reading and this is that real reading is a combination of letters that form words and words that form sentences and reveal their meaning. You could in this case even replace the words with different bells ringing and it would still work as it does. That's learning by associations.

  • @elgagalari It is technically reading. You look at the symbols, and you understand the meaning attached to them. That is reading.

  • @chriman17 I would call that watching and responding appropriately. If a car would hit you step out of the way. You would also not call that reading. What you describe is simply the Maslow operative conditioning. The difference is with reading is that each letter is a symbol and with the combination of letters the meaning starts to exist. With real reading you can read sth you have never read before - a dog can not do that

  • @elgagalari absolutely, we as humans we're actually doing the something as the dog , recognizing shapes and interpreting it with a meaning. When we see a red light, we interpret it as stop, so technically we are reading regardless of the source.

  • @elgagalari dogs have a harder time seeing colors than humans

  • replace the "reading" with a collor or sign. The sign or the collor means he will get rewarded if he shows a certain behavior. Should I call this reading?

  • hes not reading hes seeing visual pictures to wat to do
