ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS - April 16, 2011 | The Illinois News Broadcasters Association hosted their annual meeting in Rock Island, just across the bridge from Davenport, Iowa. INBA had 7th Judiciary District Chief Justice Bobbi Alpers and Scott County Attorney Mike Walton and KWQC CH6 camera man Mike Ortiz as a guest panel to discuss cameras in the courtroom. In Illinois no cameras are allowed. In Iowa, media may request a camera in a trial, with some restrictions. The panel explains their processes and take questions from the attendees.
Alpers claims that if a non media entity, even a defendant in a trail, requested permission to record the proceedings, "We would not allow that, this is for the media only."
