did they all go up in the world and invest their money into top jobs?
did any of t hem end up back in their council estates?

Yup!!! Just like Lennon with the Beatles' rip-off of the Isleys' Twist and Shout, Poole had to drastically lower the key down from that of the R&B classic original, in order to perform it. The Contours' version is the brass ring, IMHO.
