"3.9.3. Do not use rolling maneuvers to maintain or regain formation position below 5000 feet AGL or in airspace where aerobatics are prohibited." -page 11, MCI 11-F16 21 April 1995

A barrel roll is not dangerous. This was a very nice manuver done by very skilled pilots. I do barrel rolls just about every day. Those people were way at more risk by just driving to that game in their car than being worried about an airplane flying over. It was a very smart manuver. People are idiotic for not understanding what that was.

The pilot ~was~ grounded for doing it, but onyl because it wasn't a part of the flight plan.. but you're right, it's not a dangerous maneuver at all.

Grounding an F-16 pilot for doing a barrel roll, wow tell me there's nothing wrong with our country...where are our guts? especially the modern day Generals, doesn't get more liberal then them.

the story was that the pilot fell out and back of the formation.. and then sped up to catch up to the formation just as the group made it over the field, with too much speed, the pilot had to perform the roll to lose the speed he gained to fall back into formation.

He was grounded for hot dogging it. Its not a suprised that he was grounded not so much for putting the public in any danger, but for breaking protocal. At least thats what i remember from the story

He was bellow altitude restrictions for a barrel roll. They especailly don't like it when you do it over a populated area.

Is being grounded permanent or a temporary disciplinary action?

yes, very insane. Considering northerners claim nascar is boring. Oops they do this at every single race. But special here of course. I don't know who I'm going for this year, most people want to puke at Man Ram and Big Papi and the rest of the homo crew of the sox, but god help you if you're for the yankees. Okay, go jays I guess! By the way, in boston, the helmet thing was cool for a while, but you are no longer a blue collar team. The act is over, you guys are the most spoiled now.
