Jack the Ripper is the best known pseudonym given to an unidentified serial killer active in the largely impoverished districts in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name originated in a letter by someone claiming to be the murderer that was disseminated in the media. The letter is widely considered to be a hoax, and may have been written by a journalist in a deliberate attempt to heighten interest in the story. Other pseudonyms used for the killer at the time were "The Whitechapel Murderer" and "Leather Apron".

Attacks ascribed to the Ripper typically involved women prostitutes from the slums whose throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations. The removal of internal organs from at least three of the victims led to proposals that their killer possessed anatomical or surgical knowledge. Rumours that the murders were connected intensified in September and October 1888, and extremely disturbing letters from a writer or writers purporting to be the murderer were received by media outlets and Scotland Yard. One letter, received by George Lusk of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee, included half of a preserved human kidney, supposedly from one of the victims. Mainly because of the extraordinarily brutal character of the murders, and because of media treatment of the events, the public came increasingly to believe in a single serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Extensive newspaper coverage bestowed widespread and enduring international notoriety on the Ripper. An investigation into a series of brutal killings in Whitechapel up to 1891 was unable to connect all the killings conclusively to the murders of 1888, but the legend of Jack the Ripper solidified.

As the murders were never solved, the legends surrounding them became a combination of genuine historical research, folklore, and pseudohistory. The term "ripperology" was coined to describe the study and analysis of the Ripper cases. There are over one hundred theories about the Ripper's identity, and the murders have inspired multiple works of fiction.

  • @legendarytoyou Modern Economics is a mix of political science, pyscology, math, and history. To only look at it from one, surface level angle, does not give one the enitre big picture. Income tax may seem like a good idea, like a legal Robinhood (again, different money and time period) but it really hurts an economy and further separtes the gap between the rich and the poor. Free trade has increased the living standard of the poor, where most poor in America own cars.

  • @legendarytoyou this is true with backed currency like they had back then (paper money was backed by an equal amount in gold). However now, we have fiat money, which means there is no limit to how much everyone in society can have. Banks can now double money. (i.e. you give the bank $200 and they can lend out $200... that means there is $400 in wealth with just one transaction). Economics is a large and fairly new study. You can't just believe your eyes.

  • he was a freemason. and thats why he wasnt caught because many police are also freemasons, and their first priority is always the masonic society. he was nicknamed "leather apron" at the time because of leaving a bloodied leather apron from one of his murders in whitechapel. along with "graffiti" on the wall which said "the jewes will not be blamed for nothing". police try to suggest he was talking about jews,

  • THIS IS BLOODY GOOD !

  • @imacceptingbut Weren't they just having sex on the street then? Sounds like a good idea for them, but IDK if they had any where to go, but the dark streets hiding from cops.
