False compassion is the counterfeit of authentic compassion, if I understand Bishop Sheen correctly. It is compassion granted to those who have done wrong, rather than upon whom the wrong was done. I have watched the Bishop since I was a child in the early 1950's. It is so good to see him again now that I am grown and can more fully understand his teaching. Thank you for sharing these videos.

Yes- compassion means to 'suffer with', and really our compassion should be directed at those who suffer for doing right, or those who suffer through no fault of their own. To show compassion to someone because they sinned is bogus- rather, a call to repentance would be far more appropriate, and which would be the more loving approach.

Also, Archbishop Sheen is talking about enabling -- that is to say that society excuses wrondoings by showing false compassion to the sinner -- rather than adressing the sin itself.

The good bishop is right. Just look at the Catholic church today. It is full of these hippy liberals who want to further their false compassion agenda. They have deviated the chruch's teachings from saving souls to making it a social justice organization. Bishop Sheen must be rolling in his grave. They are the ones that push the false compassion agenda for terrorists, ghetto blacks and illegal immigrants. As a result the US and the western world has become a welfare state. It was stupid of people to let hippies rule and to give them the time of day. That is why the western wold is heading towards its doom. Read the book Slouching Towards Gomorrah by Robert Bork. It is enlightening.

@SacredFractals: I think Jesus granted forgiveness, not a license to sin. Sheen argues that false compassion permits crime by ignoring or explaining-away its sin. Jesus expected repentance.
