On July 17, 2009, VOA's Persian Service conducted an interview with Atiyeh Taheri Said Metinpours wife. In this interview Mrs. Taheri states that Said Matinpour, Riza Abbasi and Ahmad Midadi, who are Azerbaijani activists who have become prisoners of conscience, are still in prison. The judge denies that their detentions were a result of activism on behalf of Azerbaijanis and claims that they were arrested in the election aftermath.
Said Matinpour is currently serving an arbitrary 8-year sentence for "espionage" and "maintaining links to foreigners." He was arrested for contributing to various blogs and newspapers, which promote linguistic and cultural rights in Iran.
