My older brother John and I were watching the news about controversy over the burning of the flag. John turned to our dad and said, "anyone who disgraces our flag should be thrown in prison". I've never seen my dad so livid-- he turned off the TV, stood up and walked over to John. "I fought in two wars and eight battles for our freedom-- freedom to say what we want, freedom to do what we want." And then he left the room- I will never forget those words.

RIP Dad.
