I love this song so much, and I can't believe it wasn't on YouTube at all! It is really hard to come by. Wish someone would re-release the album! I took that photo on a random hike.

Not sure if the lyrics are entirely accurate, but here is what I've found.

I left my life in the bottom of a boat
I took a dive over the side
Down with the green slime losing my mind
Blinded by the salt I'm losing my mind
Wrists are tied
But my dreams are on fire
Wrists are tied
But my senses are still alive
Always the weight of my life in my hands
Forever the weight of my life in my hands

You're always thinking about death these days
Even when you laugh there's an edge to your smile
The only problem is the method or the way
A barb soaked smile saturated with style
It's nice to know you're thought of as the laugh and a half
Nobody sees the shadow you are
Wrapped in the skin that covers all but the heart
Upon your sleeve like a melting spare part
And you lay yourself open to the jokes and the jeers
Just one kind word would mean so much to you
But you couldn't give a damn as you've hardened with years
A word's just a movement of the mouth anyhow

You're pretty as a picture
And pretty smart too
Now drop the facade that supports the real you
Bleeding like a little boy that's picked on at school
You will rise up like an angel when you've played up their fool
Let them stew in their juices
You were kind to be cruel
And you never let the anger out as a rule

I've mapped out my mind
And a crime and a time
My little book of sorrows to help life shine
And it shines so bright that it burns out the eye
It's memories that are made of this that make you crack and cry
You fend off your body of a million crimes
Shouting: "So many men so many times"
And I always have this image of you sprawled across a bed
With dagger tongue flicking from your sedative head

I'm sure you realise life's lived further on
But there's not a lot to treasure when the mystery's gone
Reality will smother your dreams and your soul
When the entrance to your heart becomes another old hole
So I'm taking my dive and I'm taking it deep
To the cool white cave of my tranquilliser sleep
Where I live out the movie emotions instead
And I keep my list of sorrows locked alone in my head
And I keep my list of sorrows locked alone in my head
Could be better off dead
Could be better off dead
Could be better off dead

  • hi just for anyone whose interested and doesnt know, both albums are being re released in january.so long as they dont change there minds.and a few marc almond albums too.also according to the new tracklisting on play there are 2 or 3 extra songs on the second cd of torment and toreros well i dont have them on my copy, but one of them to my knowledge was off of a single like the b side or something.also like to add i loved all marcs work,he is a great singer.

  • @4evalivelovelife That's great news, thank you! :D

  • Just been clicking through the Marc and the Mambas stuff and really impressed - really inventive, fun - seems miles away from Soft Cell where I started. Are they all available on cd?

  • @grantha it's sadly pretty mcuh impossible to find on CD now. :( A long time ago the album was released on CD in Japan I guess, but I haven't even seen a copy for sale for years, and when I did it was about $150 dollars US or so. :/

  • i tell you what: one of the strongest songs ever. how old is the album? exact for this time period this song accompanies me through different life-periods.

  • @ameno2202 Hm shoot, I think he made it right after he left Soft Cell.

I want this track at my funeral - not morbid, just to enjoy it one last time - thanks

  • I am having a relapse to the old times... when I first got interested in music. Haven't listend to Marc Almond in ages! But I got all the CDs when they first came out, lucky me :-)

  • @ohgirl99 No it's not! Listen to 'Your Aura', though, that's definitely him

  • Beautiful

  • the greatest goth album of the 80s,recorded late 82 in2 83,its clint ruin doin the co vocals with almond, while recording this almond announced he was quittin music and ending soft cell because of media bias against him manily due to garry bushell,a sounds journo who went on to work on tv and the sun,a stunning album re issued in 2009 on dig pak with extra tracks.

  • @ohgirl99 - yes I think it is - thanks for that!
