  • @matemom55 Its in buddhist history. It happened while still buddha was alive by problems of devadattta and after the buddha's parinirvana(death) . So Dhamma Councils had to be done to solve these issues. Mahayana was also born due to a schism. U can use Accesstoinsight website to learn Tipitaka Suttas specially digha nikaya, majjima nikaya. study guides are very well done. metta

  • I love her smile. She is bursting with joy. She loves her life and finds happiness in helping others. It is a pleasure to see someone so alive.

  • If read what Buddha had said, he encouraged the monks to eat what was given no matter what it was.

He only encouraged them not to eat meat, but he did not say stop eating meat.

That would be left up to the person or individual!!

  • exactly...

"Go beyond cultural conditioning, family conditioning, find „your original faith before you were born, change your conditioned mindset"

  • There were always these 2 groups: the strict ascetic types and the more relaxed types. But what leads to schism is when someone like Devadatta proposes that ALL have to follow certain ascetic vows (living under a tree, eating only almsfood, wearing rag robes, not eating meat or fish, etc.), whereas the Buddha saw that these external things are not essential: in fact, they can even be used to justify some defilements like conceit and pride.

  • Would you be so kind to tell , from where did you get this information about vegetarism like a reason of schism? where is this in the Pali Kanon? i didn't find it like this....pls share with us your source... so Buddhism is one, but the "upaya"s are very colorfull - depending of the people"s capacity ... sarva mangalam !

  • Buddhism is one. If we divide the Buddhist, it is considered schism and it is a heavy kamma. During Buddha's time, Buddha's cousin, Devadata caused the monk to split. when he insisted that the monks be vegetarian. That's how we ended up having Theravada and Mahayana sect of Buddhism. Due to this heavy kamma calls schism, Buddha saw with his divine eyes that Devadata went to hell.

  • I think before anyone really attains strong bliss, the analytical meditations which help flush out "ignorance" &"junk" are far more worth it. I doubt that one lineage (culture)of Buddhism is harder or easier than another......

  • Unfortunately, as much as the sister has the key bodhisattva motivation, she seems to be dismissing T.Bsm in a kind of insidious way, sort of like saying "disneyland is great but you cant live there" and its an indulgence. she implies it is too advanced for westerners, but this is a large assumption considering she doesnt know all westerners or all of T.B. Suggestion: upload a constructive video about TNH's practice, not one that embodies sectarianism. thats the last thing we need in these times

  • She has a great sense of service. How magnanimous to have found such bliss but choosing to share rather than keep it all to herself.
