Only had a few minutes, I'm cooking dinner today. Here's my new guitar. After playing EVERYTHING including my dream Gibson Hummingbird and Dove, Seagulls that are REALLY nice and just about everything except Guild - which I'll try later - I decided to keep money for later and bought this Silvertone DS50.

Hey I'm cheap.

Actually not bad! Solid sitka spruce top, nato mahog back, sides and neck.

This is basically right out of the box, I haven't had the time to set it up.

Bone saddle, pins and nut are on order.

OK so here's me with Jack's in the Sack by John Hartford. Camera is buggy again...sigh. Sync and a couple of glitches. Guess I'll have to get a new one.

  • Dang, Nice Guitar sounds pretty good,I just orderd one about a week ago hope its decent, and You amazed me very nice!

  • @skillbetter Thanks! I think you'll like the Silvertone. Just make sure to set it up. Don't go nuts adjusting the truss rod or anything unless you know what you're doing. There are plenty of vids on YT to show you how to do a basic set up.

Look around on the davey4557 channel! He has lots of good stuff on setting up a guitar.

  • @skillbetter Forgot to add that the guitar MAY be set up OK out of the box. I took a shim out to lower the strings and put a little more bow in the neck but that wasn't really necessary. Play it for a while and get used to it first.

  • YES! I have played MANY "great" guitars acoustic and electric. In fact I just recently sold my 1965 Mosrite Ventrues model electric witch is a fantastic electric and has a wonderful neck but is not good for plain old picken'.

If you wait and watch on Ebay you can find the SD 50 for well less than a hundred bucks. Start off with the way it comes out of the box. Then have a professional set the guitar up for you. You won't be disappointed!

  • Hey man I've already told you I love your videos I also have a Silvertone Sd50 and was wondering do you know what nut size, and maybe what saddle size it is? Thanks!

  • I played a SD 50 some fellow had at the beach and was surprised that it had such good sound and action--he claimed he got it at a Guitar Center sale for just 20 bucks---well, I doubt that but it played well anyhow

  • It is a great shame. Once you started to sing the cat turned his/her back on you and left. I thought you sounded great ☺
