Matthews comments assume he has strong analytical skills. Dubious at best.

@SOS763 GO NORTH. Get as far away from Slave-driving religious zealots in the South as you can. Canada will help you :)

Joe and Mika at the end object to Hitchens statement that there must be some crooks and sadists in the CIA somewhere, on purely emotional grounds. By the way Mika is absolutely brainless and has nothing to contribute, as usual. They could't recognise the wisdom from Hitchens if it reached out and pulled their pants down.

@UtopiaMinor666 I see your point. I still think the USA, even more so than Britain, is the place to be for growing freedoms and a better understanding of rational thought. But the power of the American corporations and news agencies are turning Americans away from a true educated perspective in regard to you nations history. It's sad.

sure glad that dumb fk chris matthews didn't take the job lol

@SOS763 I apologize if you to were mistaken, and follied into believing the American Dream, but as an American, i will tell you that it is an integral part in every child's upbrining (mine included) that "you can be anything you want," and that "being a patriot is a good thing," but true patriotism is rarely espoused, these days. Those who dont play along and follow lead that will ultimately be outcast, and those who point them out as the patriots. Its a growing situation that id rather fight.

@SOS763 In this regard, Hitchens, though born in Shropshire, England, quite often seems to understand the true essence of being an American far greater than his national peers, despite their generic American accents and love for Apple Pie.
Secondly, Hitchens point regarding water boarding was essentially missed - forget the argument regarding the technique's ethics, the real argument lies on weather the act would be counter productive. And I agree with Christopher.

As a Brit I actually appreciate the U.S a lot. I don't hate the country or view your entire nation as retarded or stupid, but it's sad to see newscasters the nation over live so blindly and patriotically, to the point in which the idea, backed up by evidence, that American CIA personnel have committed sadist acts against innocent people, has to be defended without a shred of intellectual thought. This is supposed to be the nation of freedom, not blind patriotism.
i'd love to hear the bimbo's and typical anchorman's retort on Hitchens statement about the CIA. I'm sure it would sound something like "well, it's an American government agency so i'm sure they wouldn't do such things, and people in the CIA are brave and we're proud of them."

CIA was NOT reporting Soviet union as a growing threat in the 80's. On the contrary, they reported that USSR's military capability was diminishing. However, the Reagan administration formed a new group to evaluate CIA's intelligence reports. The new politically appointed group made the conclution that Soviet union indeed was a growing threat.
The republicans later pulled exactly the same stunt with WMD in Iraq, using reports that CIA had dismissed as unreliable bogus or misinformation.
