Yes, it's yet another one of those fast-boot XP videos. This is XP Pro booting off a 2GB Sandisk Extreme IV CF card. The dialog box that pops up when windows starts is xp complaining about a small swap file. I need an 8GB card at least!

The PC is a Dell SX260 P4 2.0GHz 1GB.

The real test is with real-life applications!

  • Wich is faster. With CF - SATA adapter or just put to the CF slot in front of PC? (USB I think?) And is it good idea to just buy an CF card to boot windows? Will it be much faster than normal HDD? I'm planning to buy an Transcend 32GB 400X card. :)

  • did you have to muck with the EWF?

  • Buy a Compact Flash to IDE adaptor, put your CF card into the Compact Flash connector and your hard drive cable into the IDE end. Then install Windows normally. Some people use software to make custom, smaller XP installations but this isn't 100% necessary.

When installed, you should set up Virtual Memory so it's on a regular HDD to make sure your CF card lasts longer.

  • how do you do this?

  • How long have you bin using this setup ?

The reason I ask is that I have read about a lot of people, burning of the card by doing this, somthing about the swap drive, and writing to much info to the card.

And yes i really want to throw out my old hdd, in my Windows 98 laptop and replace it with an adapter and card :P

To save weight and give more speed to the old machine, plus my old hdd is broken, sow i only use half of the disk :(

  • can u tell me if its a good thing,,, it is cheaper than ssd,, , i looked 4 sata ones ,they must be good 2,,,, how much mem wud u sudjest me 2 buy,, id instal xp sp3 with drivers and apps or win 7,,,tnx

  • did you boot it on a card reader or used a CF to HDD adapter?
