Space...the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise-B. Its ongoing mission -- to explore strange new worlds...to seek out new life and new civilizations...to boldy go where no man has gone before. :'-]

VideoFX, please give mylex67 your tumbling dock worker *evil grin*. Good Stuff, both of you. I might not be a ( computer ) artist, but I know art when I see it. This IS art. Maybe when I retire, I can devote long hours to CG'ing a rotating cube. Thats about how talanted I am compared to you guys doing this Enterprise CGI stuff. Keep up the good work!

I am a big Trek fan from way back and I just want to say Bravo!! Perfect! I loved the way the Enterprise flys through space and past Jupiter. The Jupiter approach and passing was dead on perfect. The best adaptation of the Leaving the Drydock sequence in my opinion. Brings back wonderful memories. Many thanks from this old Trekker.

@captjami Yes - I saw him too! I've seen a lot of these Enterprise refit launches and they're all good, but this is the first one with him in, waving and doing his backflip!! :-D
Did you also notice the impulse deflection crystal powering up with a hum (the blue dome) with power flowing up from the intermix chanber before the engine ports glowed? I can just imagine Scottie comming the bridge and saying "intermix set, bridge, impulse power at your discretion!"
Brilliant! :-D

That's a really nice remake and it has some fresh new shots in there, congrats !

The Enterprise moving through space looks so natural.

Okay... You continue to do your thing. I want to say this--Nice touch with the powering up of the Impulse Deflection Crystal right before the Impulse drive was engaged. Nicely done.

@VideoSpaceFX Yea, raytraced and area shadows are nothing on my system using finalRender... of course area shadows are naturally going to take longer... but with the right settings, they're fast... over scanline... plus, you get all kinds of materials...

id=140&feature=1176 I use finalRender 3.5 PERSONAL, which is exactly like STUDIO EDITION, minus some network rendering features, which I don't really use, but you have to be in and prove you're in an...
How does Prologic's drydock fair on your system... it was a killer the last time I used it...

Well the mesh was ok, i removed alot of the lights and tweaked the others to be a bit more friendly. I rendered the ship seperately with only a few of the dock lights actually on that helped speed things up. Our system specs are virtually the same, I think the lights are the issue more than anything.

This is just special! No one animates the rest of that sequence - certainly not like that!
How long does it take you to do these sequences?

@TalesOfKrypton
Thanks alot.
Well if you're wondering about total render time I have no idea, but it is definately less than some videos I've seen where they say it took hundreds of hours I think because I try to simplfy the lighting setup as much as possible and also I'm not rendering in 1080p (Bit pointless as the models are not detailed enough IMO). Preparing the models and shots can take time, like the drydock where i had to put all the lights on it etc.

How come @ 0:15 when the lights turn off, the ship blurs and unblurs?

@CJCA915
Not sure, I think the video just wasn't encoded very well at the point where the light swtiches off, although I used stupidly high settings! I wasn't an effect I put in thats for sure.
