My friend Lavarok drove his "Shark" over to the house today to show me all of the improvements he has made on the vehicle since we retrieved it from a Navy base in South Carolina. This particular ambulance was used by the US Navy as a "special purpose" vehicle, thus the nickname of "shark". Now I want one of these myself....but it will HAVE to be a SHARK otherwise it will be an inferior M1010!

  • Great Video!

  • Thanks! Hope to make one of these videos when I land a "shark" someday!

  • can u access the rear from the cab?

    make an excellent camper/ motorhome,

I read the engines give problems though, glow plugs fail a lot and bottom ends fail?

  • There's actually a door that you can open or shut to allow access from the cab into the back of the ambulance. Glow plugs are a problem if the controller card goes bad but a lot of people (like me) install a manual momentary switch to energize the glow plugs and this usually corrects the problem once and for all. Some of the military versions of the 6.2 diesel can go well over 100K miles without a problem if properly maintained. Thanks for the comment!

  • When the USMC first got them we had a problem with the glow plugs, and since they where still under warranty we could not service them. We had to take them to the Chevy dealer in town. The drivers would not wait for the plugs to warm up, and that burned out the glow plugs.

  • would like to see a full power drive by or inside view/video. shame these dont come in rhd!

  • I agree, that is a beautiful truck... it sounds super as well... thanks for sharing!

  • thats a nice truck like you said get one

  • Uhhh....I'll take a pass, thanks...

  • CAKES!!!!! This thing is air conditioned Kathy! If I got the one out in California Faye would get to choose from four different bunks to sleep on in the back ! I know you would enjoy riding in it too. I'll borrow my friend's ambulance to take Faye on a test drive and she will be hooked!

  • Ok BOONSKI !

It's probably more "usable" for travel than the current beast....but wouldn't a nice RV be a more comfortable ride? You and Mom could actually communicate face to face & have a lot more room inside. I know you can get used ones for a steal these days, and maybe you could get a diesel one that could be converted to run on biofuel...
