@steve89z -I think his personal style was different to what he did (very briefly) for the Box Tops, even his tunes in Big Star after Chris Bell left were different - His solo career was lo-fi fuzzed out swaggery rock'n'roll with a touch of folk and he is quoted as saying he is most proud of his production work with The Cramps - I think although he never had a hit like with 'The Letter' he did things on his own terms and he was happy with that y'know?

I guess the irony here is that there are now plenty of latterday Big Star fans who have no idea Alex sang "The Letter"? Nice clip, Alex seems like a charming guy...

the thing i don't get why no more hits or a killler career? they had one more hit.i was 13 in 1967 and played this song to death at linwood luncheonette linwood nj my 7th grade hangout! fountain soda,burgers,shakes,and the jukebox! owned by a cop! sergeant rudy reeves!

Alex Chiton did a helluva lot more than The Box Tops. Big Star. His solo work. His production of The Cramps. Cool find, though.
