He established the People's Republic in 1949; in 1950, he sent the Chinese army into Korea; and in 1951, he launched his anti-rightist campaigns. The next big date was the start of the Great Leap Forward in 1956, which is the relevant one here. Nothing of major consequence happened in '52.
