He is very good defensively and (we all know) offensively.

He's won batting titles and brought life to to rest of the abomination thats known as the Twins lineup.

Mauer is awesome but he is young and has ways to go. Posada is accomplished and is a 3x world champion. He may not be the best catcher ever but he is one of them.

It matters, especially in the playoffs.

Mauer, when all said and done, may be one of the greatest catchers of all time. Not now though.
