We did not get our "Asses Kicked" we killed one million of them. We left Nam in 73 with a peace accord. then again our politicans screwed South VN by not living up to our agreement with them or the North VN. too much detail to try and go into on this site. Politicans dirty lying backstabbing polaticians, again and again, then as now "Our Leaders" Screw us and get away with it. except now we are Broke. Jerks like McCain will sell us out to oblivion. they make millions we lose

Wow, those CIA tactics worked so well. I bet they're working just as well in Afghanistan and Iraq.
You forgot lack of U.S. citizen support, low moral, weak government leadership, limits of conventional warfare. The U.S. usually beat the hell out of the Vietcong and forced them to attack and then flee. I agree they were much smarter than our U.S. Gov. But it wasn't the only reason they won. Don't forget the terrain as well, the terrain beat the hell out of our technology. But there are many more reasons why the U.S. lost other than the VC being smart.

Operation Phoenix was a violation of the Geneva Convention - arrest without warrant or trial, torture, execution. Prisoners, women, old men, were kept in isolation called Tiger cages, shackled by their feet on top of a concrete bed. It was a terrible inhuman system the Americans did
