Willem Mengelberg conducting the Amsterdam Concertgebouw - Debussy Prelude to " L' apres-midi d' un faune". Recorded on 30. Nov. 1938. Telefunken SK 2955, Matrices: *U 023715/16 (Hungarian pressing)
While the pace may be faster than what we're used to today (?), one can hardly miss the pleasures in this very enjoyable Debussy score. Many of the earlier recordings were sped up to fit the limited time format of 78RPM discs. Thank you.... and I am also surprised to see the one dislike.
Wonderful. Never expected to find to find this. Mengelberg is in my top 2 conductors (with Stokowski). Only weakness is oboe, as usual. Haven't found any new Mengelberg in a long time. The subtlety is stunning. Thank you very much for uploading. A dislike for this??
