I was a Marine at Futima Base in 1967. Loved the island and people. Used to frequent the Bar Marie in Futima village. Mamasan let Marines buy drinks on credit. She had a lovely daughter who we used to dance with when in the bar playing the jukebox. Those days are gone forever. We drived on the right side of the road, speed limit was 30 mph and the US dollar was standard all over the island. The indiginents worked for $45 a month and that was a huge salary back then. Wish I could go visit again.

..also you might like music by Ryukyu Underground as some of their mixes sound similar to the style used in this clip. There's also compilations by the duo Takashi Hirayasu & Chuei Yoshikawa (平安隆 with 吉川忠英). You can find their music on itunes. Check out the album with an adan tree and blue sky/ocean on the cover. Their version of Tinsagu nu hana is very relaxing :)

@thesnk The only songs I recognize are (Tinsagu nu Hana てぃんさぐぬ花) from 1:22~3:50 and (Kagiyadefū bushiかぎやで風節) from 3:51~4:26 which are traditional folk songs, but in this clip is modernly remixed befitting an Okinawa promo video. You probably won't be able to find this mix anywhere unless you contact the producers of this video, or a guy named Shinsuke Sugiuchi ref. @ 1:24!

I lived on Okinawa 1977 to 1980. I loved the land and the people and the sea. I learned to fish in the East China sea with my Okinawan friends..I remember China Pete's on Gate 2 street..also Highway One Restuaurant. I still have forever friends there and will never forget my experience and adventure there. The cherry blossom festival in Nago is one of my favorite memories. I worked at Kadena AB and lived amongst the people of Okinawa.. thankyou for the memories. <3
