This is a simple comparison test between the Sony camcorders XR520V (New Exmor R - Back Illuminated Sensor) and HDR-SR12 (Exmor ClearVid CMOS Sensor). I did not have a tripod at the moment then I apologize for the video a little shaky. XR500 XR520 XR520V
It is quite clear that the newer cam has a wider tonal range than the old one, but both have the same detail resolution. The SR12's lens is a bit wider, not sure about the tele ends. GPS and extra memory space aren't that appealing to me, esp when the footage looks nearly identical and so is the design. All in all I don't see a point buying a slightly upgraded cam while the street price of the older one has dropped drastically.

Ive got question. Did you customize any setting on cameras or they are on default settings (auto).
In 0:45 (indoor) xr520v records darker image than sr12 what is a little bit strange because in other views, movie from xr520v is brighter than sr12.
Why?

i think outdoor diffrence is rather big

there is only difference in quality in indoor shooting. Outdoor shooting the difference is minimal.
