Debate on Science and Religion. My Mom and Dad are having a philosophical discussion. This is not unusual in my house. And even though they are both very adamant about their points, they are not actually fighting. They refer to it as exercising their brains.

  • hmmm it kind of funny

you have the husbean fighting over his none beleave in God and then you got his wife fighting over her beleave in God

now if you thowe in a kid the kids got to beside

wich to chose from whos right!

so its more likey the kid would chose the stronger parent wich in this case is the father, but what the father dose not understand his wife love him and he kind of forceing her to chose between her beleaf in God over her love for her husbean which in any case he loses

  • she also finds religion disgusting. I know it's easy to mistake her for a Christian in this video. but she is playing devils advocate. she is sort of spiritual in the loosest possible sense and I think she would probably be insulted to think that people saw her arguing in favor or any religion. Let me put it this way. she saw that film Religulous and she liked it even more than I did.

  • I just came to a bit of a revalation when it comes to this argument. You can't say that an athiest believes that everything is an "accident" because an accident requires intent.

  • An accident dose not require intent, if it was intentional, it wouldn't be called an accident. Maybe what you are trying to say is that an accident requires an event?

  • I think accident can have connotations of being some kind of misstake. That kind of accident can't happen without an intent going wrong. No intent, then no intent going wrong. The universe happened by accident. Do they mean we atheists believe something went as it wasn't supposed to?

  • No, that's not what I meant. With all the atoms and complex gasses and minerals interacting all the time. It is almost inevitable that life will form under the right conditions.

  • Why is this video rated so low? I found it extremely interesting and liked both points of view.

  • "No, we have human spirit. I have experience. I know."

That sounds like observation and pattern recognition. We can tell there are reasons behind the kinds of things we get from that. I think the reasons behind her experience might be such that she might find their existence problematic in the same way that she seems to find the idea of relying on logic since it makes things so figurable. Also, why is it objectionable to not have been made by someone else on purpose? What's so bad about tha?

  • Prof Dawkins would be sad to hear you speak of evolution as purely accidental.

    I like the discussion though

  • Dude he looks like a really sweet old man.

  • Heh this sounds like my wife and I.

  • Ooh. Your mom isn't too bright.

  • Religulous is a fun movie, but I wouldn't take it seriously. Anyone can say they're right without backing it up. I was actually pretty dissappointed with Bill, I thought he was really going to take on Religion. Oh well, still pretty funny though.

  • Your family is weird. I dig that.

I like how your accent seems to be a hybrid of your mother's north american and your dad's Australian (is it?) accent.

  • so If I saw Religulous, would I understand why your mom is arguing with your dad?

  • There is no reason for me to think there is a pie.

I like how You pop escapes from emotional traps laid by Your mom. Did he tries to lure her somewhere where he know the ground?

I love way how math escapes from clutches of doubt. It hacks it with axioms. And makes the things work. Like a cofee machine or bridge.

I have no trouble with axioms like "There is a god". Why not, if they make something useful or at least interesting of it?
