A Brief Description of where I stayed in Hong Kong during My South East Asia tour of 2009.

Chungking Mansions - A huge, ramshackle high rise dump in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui caters to virtually all needs- from finding a bed and a curry lunch to changing your gold coins and getting your hair cut- but you may be put off by the undercurrent of sleaze and the peculiar odor of cooking fat, incense and sewage. The Building's infamy is fuelled by tales both tall and true of conflagrations, crimes and unclaimed bodies; everyone should come here once.

I stayed there 3 nights. It's a bit sketchy, but I never felt threatened at any point.

It's the same building. It's a little nicer because that part is a hostel of many.. so, it's a little better.. The Chunking Mansions building is a mashup of many many things. It's seedy, dirty, smelly, shady, etc, In the same building you can get food, exchange money, buy porn mags, knock off iphones, and it also has housing. It's probably the most diverse building in the world. A must visit if you're ever in Hong Kong.

can anyone tell me if this place is dangerous at night? i´ll be in hong kong for the first time and i´m planning to stay wether at mirador/chungking mansion!

Wow this is such an interesting building, all the shops cafes etc and all the hostels way above them. Good video captures all the atmosphere. I guess almost like a modern version of Kowloon Walled City as you say very diverse building.

at 6:50 seems like you get into a very different place. Is that same building? how come that zone looks better (btw, I didn't mean 'good', just better).
