Important teachings on the Great Protector Setrap.

Setrap is an ancient, grand old Protector who from Bodhgaya traveled to Tibet with the translator Loden Sherab, to help the growth of Dharma in the Land of Snow. He has been Gaden Shartse's Protector for many hundred years now and, as Rinpoche always says, that means he is good enough for us!

  • Rinpoche, I doubt you personally have time to read these comments, but I hope those close to you convey the happiness you give those of us seeking the Dharma. Your lineage is a blessing to all of us. We are not only being taught by you and your multitudes of lifetimes, but by your entire lineage and those blessed lives as well, thank you.

    Matt

  • @alexou822 We do not practice Dorje Shugden at Kechara House and RInpoche is an incumbent of Gaden Monastery :) . We trust only Setrap all the way.

  • wow..amazing , i was told by one rinpoche that setrap chen have a close relation to dorje shugden , Btw can i get dorje shugden images or prayer book in KH ? thanks

  • The crux of gaining Lord Setrap's blessings is our commitment practices of holding samaya with our Guru. Hence it is represented iconographically on the tail of Lord Setrap's horse that is tied up in a knot to denote the importance of keeping our Guru samaya and our spiritual commitments. He will particularly bless those who hold our Samaya.

  • News leaked out! I heard that the long awaited English book called Setrap, the Protector is at last about to come out. It will be a boxset complete with Shartse Jewel prayers and a tsa-tsa image of Setrap. I can't wait!!!

  • I heard that for those who are doing lots of Dharma work, it would be wise to take up a Dharma protector to clear obstacles. Also for those who enter the path of Tantra, Dharma Protectors are vital for the fruition of practice as there would be a lot of obstacles.

  • Lama Loden Sherab brought Setrap's practice to Tibet and his monastery was Sang Neutog. After the advent of Lama Tsongkhapa, the monastery became a Gelugpa monastery and Setrap was installed as the great protector of Gaden Shartse.

  • Its neat that Lord Setrap is a Dharma Protector since the previous Buddha have sworn to protect the Dharma to so many holy beings and still working till today.

  • "May I not waste anymore time on the trivial activities of this life but engage in the study of Dharma, engage in the understanding of Dharma. When I understand and only when I understand very well, engage in the meditation. In order to subjugate my mind. Subjugate my mind from that habituation that brings harm into habituation that brings benefits

Oh may Lord Setrap give me the strength to fulfill this wish...

  • I sure love the story of how Lord Setrap was brought over to Tibet from India. It immortalizes how Buddhism was brought over to Tibet.
