  • once i saw the hole video with the fatal crash scene here on youtube. but cant find it anymore. must be deleted?

  • @jb4peace1 DeAngelis was testing the Brabham and it lost a wing in France and the car flipped upside down and because there were hardly any marshalls around he died from the smoke and lack of oxygen. Yep safety's improved and no death in F1 since 1994.

  • @dazincalculation Admit I wasn't paying attention to F1 when DeAngelis was killed. 2 big safety improvements came directly from Clark's death (prodded by Jackie Stewart): tires were required to be bolted to wheels & Armco barriers to keep cars from flying into trees, etc. Ironically, poorly-installed Armco led to other deaths (Rindt, Cevert, Koinigg). but it did save many lives. Fuels bladders came after Bandini's death, but fatal fires continued for another 10 years. Sad.

  • @jb4peace1 Yes Clark was a special driver so I heard (I's born 1969). I think a deflated tyre caused his death. Thank goodness the likes of Jackie Stewart got safety to improve.

  • @dazincalculation I was around in the '60s (a child) but didn't see any F1, as it wasn't on TV & I wasn't near Watkins Glen to see USGP. Closest to F1 I got was USAC @ Seattle RC (Mario, Gurney, Donahue). Clark's death was a real shocker. I feel it was similar to death of JFK in that every racing fan around back then remembers exactly where they were when they heard Jim Clark was killed. A lot of drivers died in those days, but everyone thought Clark was superhuman & immortal.

  • @jb4peace1 Sorry jb4peace1 but the deAngelis comment in my reply to you somehow duplicated 3x !

  • @jb4peace1 Another death I found upsetting was DeAngelis'. The events leading up to it. The way the Lotus team started to focus on Senna which caused Elio to leave, and the fact that Patrese was scheduled to test that fateful day, but Elio insisted... Were you around in the 60s seeing the F1's? I wasn't but heard that Clark was a special driver. Bandini's another whose death was tragic. He only ever made 2 errors...

  • @dazincalculation Pit would be the safest place for Zorzi in case of fire, tons of marshals & extinguishers. Also, I misremembered about the fire extinguisher; it dented a door car door, jamming it shut. But, yes, many questions, many "what ifs?" One could also blame classic British propriety. According to Tremayne, Pryce had an offer from John Surtees to drive for him in '77, but demurred because of the unseemly appearance of driving for a sponsor run by Pryce's father-in-law.
