Sivananda conferred the the title of raja yogi on Mr Iyengar.Krishnamacharya can be seen on film acknowledging Mr Iyengars adeptness at yoga.These are just two.

He Actually leads a modest lifestyle.

so, this path. yeah. well, that is up to the individual. Somepeople want to learn not just the asanas for gymnastic reasons. I think some people are more evolved and want to work on self improvement. Anyway, your comment made me laugh about being a born again Christian of the yoga world. i am not, and I should have just left your comment alone.

Blame the folks who buy his books or pay to see him. I am practicing yoga now because of sciatica, and I enjoy studying with an Iyengar teacher. I am not worshipping anyone. I study Zen and practice zazen, but enjoy the asanas and focusing on the breath, and being aware of what my body is doing. I enjoyed reading "Light on Yoga" and it's a good book. I think the promoters earn a lot of money from BKS, too. Even Yogi beggars want money.Our Iyengar teacher met BKS, and studied with his students.

So the man has some interesting techniques and he certainly is a successful entrepreneur, no question about that, but just because you have been sucked into this commercial gymnastic shit doesn't make it right or ok.

Oh crap, what are you ? The born again Christian of the yoga world ? There is no "path" here, this guy discovered the mighty US$ years ago and lost any purity of intent he may have had, he's a gymnast. The first time I met him he was on his cellphone doing a book deal. The second time he was walking through his institute arms literally full of cash.

cspace: your comments amuse me. What are your intentions, actually? You are definately not a yogi, one who practices not only asanas, but who practices the philosophy and adheres to the path. Not critizing ANYONE, is one of the ways of a yogi.
