This is the cedar fire as seen from the back door of the Fast Lane studios. Our property was spared, but nearly 500 homes within a 3 mile radius were destroyed by this deadly fire.

  • I wasn't standing there holding the camera.

The camera was unmanned and I was a little further down in the canyon helping my neighbor with his horses.

    Thanks for your concern though...

  • HOLY SHIT!!! I lived in San Diego around 2003 and i was in this event!!!

  • and they say San Diego is paradise. nothing's perfect.

  • you were close

  • I have seen that too. And there is a dirt bike track out off of wild cat canyon road, (I think) and I have seen controlled burns along that road too come to think of it. But not like in Oregon where they really burn out the underbrush.

  • I have seen them do controlled burns along HWY 94 east of Jamul (same area that burned this week). They were only burning out the brush that was immediately along the highway, as most fires around here are caused by flaming objects from cars.

  • I lived in Ramona, it was sooo sad... I remember though that at one point the winds blew the opposite direction and the fire as it was comming towards us, just went out! It was amazing. Is there any particular reason that there are not more prescribed burns in san diego??

  • Ah yeah I was in Alpine at the time.

  • I am so sorry to hear! ...which is exactly why I have created to device found on my website 3w'sdothftfirebusterdotcom To allow home owners an added edge of SAFETY and SECURITY whether from a pool... or a stationary tank. This medically retired Fire Captain feels for you and yours! Do you live in the same area... or a less threatened environment?

    All my best!
