Last song off 'Night Vision'. Drop D tuning. I've always found the verses to this song interesting-- the vaguely medieval imagery, borrowing from the Chronicles of Narnia; the internal rhyming (grave/graven, rampant/rampart etc). I'm pretty sure I got some of those lyrics wrong here, but whatever.
It's interesting to me, as well, that this song was written before Cockburn was born again. I interpret the song as millenarian: the first two verses describe the decay an illusion of this world (experience time-centered), while the last verse imagines a hawk bursting forth from highway paved with diamonds etc. Who knows.
Way to go again! Great job. Glad these older Cockburn gems are recorded in this way for posterity.
