Victor Burnette was one of the guest speakers at MAIP's 2009 awards luncheon. Victor was pardoned by VA Gov. Timothy Kaine in April 2009, over two decades after he was released on parole for a 1979 rape that he did not commit. It was Victor's persistence to have his DNA tested that ultimately proved his innocence and helped him attain his freedom. Through its work on the Virginia Old Case Testing Project, MAIP is working to make sure that people wrongfully convicted like Victor have every opportunity to prove their innocence.
