Vieille Case, Dominica (December 18, 2009) -- The Worlds youngest sitting Prime Minister cast his ballot at 8:50AM (Dominica time) at the Vieille Case Village Council Office as his Party seeks a third-term mandate.
Roosevelt Skerrit, 37, assumed the office of Head of Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica at the age of 31 when his predecessor, Pierre Charles, suddenly died in January 2004.
Eighteen months later, the then 32-year old was elected on his own accord (with his Party receiving 52.1% popular support) to serve as Prime Minister of the Caribbean island nation for a 5-year term. Skerrit is the leader of the Dominica Labour Party.
After earning degrees in English and psychology from the University of Mississippi and New Mexico State University, respectively, Skerrit became an instructor at a Dominican community college. Elected to Dominicas parliament in 2000, he eventually became the education Minister of the Caribbean island.
Ironically, Skerrits opponent is a 69-year old.
