@brithgob Correct on the Loblaws chain - they were owned by them. Interesting on the logo.

Not to mention President's Choice.

They must have been owned by the Canadian Loblaws chain. That logo is the Loblaw "L" upside down, and they continue to make use of black Helvetica type on yellow.

At National Supermarkets, you're important to us!- until we sell-out to Schnuck's!

You learn something new every day I didn't know theCertified warehouse in Hodgkins was the old National warehouse. as for our old neighborhood store,it probably was an A&P at some point. Somewhere down the line it became a Certified Grocers store for sure because it carried the Certified Red Label,Raggedy Ann and Country's Delight brands. Many of the old Butera's and Hi-Low stores were also Certified Grocers stores. At one time, they gave Jewel a run for their money. .

there warehouse in hodgins illinois on i-55 was sold to certified but all the stores were sold off to A&P......their hq was in rosemont illinois on the kennedy expressway......

We had a National Supermarket in our neighborhood in Chicago, but it was bought out by Certified Grocers.
And Thom Lewis was probably the best voice-over commercial announcer in St. Louis TV! Must admit seeing round steak for $1.59 a pound brought a tear to my eye (LOL)...

I'm from Chicago and remember National on Cermak near Damen. Remember "Turn Style" and "Community"?
