I've read through all the comments but I'm still not clear on whether you can use this phone without the data service plan or not??? Also with the wi-fi thing - can you use the internet/email on wi-fi WITHOUT having a data service plan?

@navvada yes you can use the Internet over Wifi, the problem is that in order for the icons to appear for the built in email/web you need the data plan. One option is to add the data plan and then cancel it (that way your icons appear)
