This is a more indepth, in studio version of the guitar lesson, recorded at the CBC Radio One studios in Vancouver, BC with Randy Bachman as he recorded his radio show Vinyl Tap.

A few months ago Randy did an on-air Guitar lesson which taught guitar playing listeners how to play the first half of Cannonball Rag. The second half of the lesson aired June 9th and this is its accompanying video!
Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and BTO fame has a hit radio show on CBC Radio One and Sirius Satellite Channel 137 Saturday nights from 7-9pm.

  • @Freakfolker I'm afraid Matt is correct on this one. In a diminished chord, the root, 3rd and 5th are 3 semitones (or a minor 3rd) apart. eg. C Eb Gb. In an augmented chord, they are 4 semitones (major 3rd) apart. eg. C E G#. The chord in question being played here is a C#dim chord, (C# E G). If you notice, these are also the 3rd, 5th and 7th of an A7 chord. So you could really substitute an A7/C# for the C#dim. It sounds just as right, and in voice leading terms it leads a G to an A to a B.

  • Hey bro. Can't find the gadgets on your web-site. What gives?

  • good lesson and opened my eyes to a lot of things tks randy.

  • sweet lesson! but whos version of this? its not Travis thats for sure. same chords but done totaly different

  • Tried to go to your web site for gadgets to find chord voicings. Can't get to web. Did get to your youtube page. Could not find gadget.

  • awesome!!!

  • No, he's right ... it's augmented because the voice leading is moving in that direction. An aug. or dim. chord can be the exact same chord with different adjacent letter names, in case you didn't know! If the voice leading was moving down it would be called diminished.

  • You are an absolute LEGEND for putting this video up!!! Thank you!!

  • @matt1284508

You, Sir, are an arrogant smart-ass. Who are you to pick upon a guitar wizard such as Randy Bachman like that?

  • Wrongs chords called out againThis is embarrassing as this video is forever. The correct chords are C---C#dim.---G/D(G over a D bass)---To E7.The 1st three notes are chromatic. The C#dim. notes he plays are low to high C#--Bflat--E.The D has to be in the bass on the G chord to complete the half step progression.I know for darn sure Lenny Breau didn't tell Randy a dim. chord is an augmented chord and He should know the difference himself after all these yrs..
