Tutorial on how to Customise GRUB using grub-customizer which provides a nice easy way of: Changing Grub menu entries, Removing MemTest 86+ from the list, Changing Default Entry Selection (e.g. Have Windows selected by default instead of Linux), and Adding a Background Image.

For Ubuntu users
Add Repository: ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer
Then Install: "grub-customizer" via Synaptic or Software Centre.

For other Linux Distros
Source code is available from: https://launchpad.net/grub-customizer

  • Hi, good video, i downloded did the changes while watching the video put an image 1024x768 24 bits did the save but the image never shows up.

I got GRUB 1.98-1ubuntu12 this Grub was installed by Backtrack 5.

You know what meybe the error? The image is a BMP, tried a JPG still not showing.

  • @oyanezg You have to make the changes from the system that Installed Grub, so for your system make the changes using BackTrack.

If its a problem with the image then try it as an Uncompressed .TGA format

  • @quidsup

I cant Add your repository to synaptic. There is something wrong with the adress.

  • @IsJeBoyGeert Nope, its still there on the Launchpad page:

    launchpad(dot)net/~danielrichter2007/+archive/grub-customizer

  • It doesn't seem to do anything for me, I'm using wubi could that be the problem?

  • @XiXloveXtoXsnipeX Yes that would be the problem, I expect this only works for full system installs
