Burns was of course an exciseman, and a brave one at that. He led an armed party on 28th Feb 1792 to board the smuggling ship 'Rosamund' which was subsequently seized. He sung this song at an Excise dinner in Dumfries the following month.
Ross again helps out here and Pete Clark - the superb musician from Perthshire, plays the fiddle part
