I am not familiar with Canadians laws. However, in the US, I would write the mayor and send a copy to my local councilmember on this matter. I would also attend a council meeting to bring up this issue. Since this is a new house, work is guaranteed for at less 10 years. It is time to get a lawyer.

The big deal about the 6 inch lip-the city is ignoring its own laws. Many 2 families owners have been brought to court for creating an illegal apartment. The city must sign off on new construction. They are ignoring its own rules.

You live in new jersey talking about people "doubling up"? Nothing worse than somebody from the city bitching about population. When those people "double up" they still show up on a census. You like cities but you don't like growth? Or if it grows you want it to grow the way you want.....right? LOL If you need gubment to make sure your house is built right you deserve neither govt. or a proper house.

Thanks for helping turn us into a nanny state country with crap like this! I gonna do something you havent done yet, called thinking. As a builder I can tell you, garage doors don't always mean garage's. Many garage doors you see on new homes actaully open up to a small storage area. Guess who funds the developers? OH, THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY! Guess who decides what property is worth when there is no accessable garage? You mean the same people like you?Don't blame govt if you live around idiots

If I want to build a house ( I overbuild ) and something isnt what a "expert" deems what is right in their "opinion" I should be allowed to build the way I want NOT what the province wants!! MY MONEY .... MY HOUSE!!! I would state that it wasnt to some assholes idea of what a house should be if I decided to sell it. Goverment is ASS!!

Pay to play. It's the Malibu way. In malibu everything is forbidden that cannot be payolahed away. It's easier to build a 12,000 SF home than a 1,200 SF one.

The average person is fined if leaves accumulate on their property. The city boots your car if you park longer than 2 hrs in certain zones. However, violations are overlook by developers. This is the city in whicn 18 of the 44 people were caught taking money.  That issue made headlines.
