Using computer animation and amazing astronomical art, Dr. Sagan shows how stars are born, live, die and sometimes collapse to form neutron stars or black holes.

We then journey into the future to witness "the last perfect day on Earth," 5 billion years from now, after which the sun will engulf our planet in the fires of its death throes.

  • For some reason, I always get choked up when he says, "Such high temperatures are common in nature. Where? In the insides of the stars." Carl's just that good, I guess

  • How do we know hydrogen is in there? Has anyone opened it up and lit a match to check? It could just be an empty bottle.

  • @GammyGoose Because he didn't want to end up like Marie Curie . . . Nobody picks up uranium bare-handed. At least no one who knows what it is does.

  • @devotedpupa By 92 he means the 92 elements that can be naturally found on Earth. He acknowledges the even heavier elements beyond uranium that were made in laboratories around 8:26.

  • "All 92 of them" awwww how cute.

  • How does one unsubscribe?

  • And now there are, what, 118?

  • Carl Sagan = My Hero

  • These videos are treasures for science.
