July 17, 2010 - Bruno Vassel "B4" gliding with Joe Brack "84" on the Logan, Utah ridge during practice day of the Region 9 Logan 2010 sailplane contest. I am in an ASW-20BL and Joe is in an LS-4. The annoying static is from the radio due to the external battery pack of the HD camera system (Canon HF20 with fish eye lens)

  • Your soaring videos are simply the best I have ever seen. I am a fellow sailplane pilot, but embarrassed to say so, because your flying is simply several classes beyond mine...like a different sport. I appreciate both that you let us hear the natural sounds of soaring, and your occasional commentary on your thought processes. Plain and simply, I wouldn't change a thing. Much, much, much appreciated!!

  • @saildapper2001 You givewaaaaay too much credit! Thanks for the kind words though. It is a blast to fly up there and to share the experience with people all over the world. Thanks so much for taking the time to write and please share some of your own soaring videos too. Would love to see. :) Take care and fly safe. Bruno

  • @ about 7 minutes, you touched the ?speedbrakes? Mind if I ask what was that for?

  • @lucserre Great question. This is an ASW-20B which is a flapped glider. At that point my airspeed changed to the point I needed to change to a different cruise flap setting. Many people don't know but racing gliders have negative cruise flaps and not just landing flaps. Thanks for asking. Bruno

  • great clip again! thx for sharing! Question:

Do you have a new position for your camera or do you bought a new lens?

  • @aaf12 Yes, I have a new everything. I got everything ready just in time to film this contest. I am using a Canon HF20 with a fish eye lens. I tried a wide angle and it just wasn't wide enough. I have to zoom in just slightly I found out after this day or you could see the sides of the lens. As for the position, I am using a RAM mount arm on a 1" ball secured just over my right shoulder. Didn't get in the way at all and was rock steady. Thanks for watching - Bruno
