The Four Tops Classic Golden Oldie hit.

All through this long and sleepless night
I hear my neighbors talking (She don't love him)
Saying that out of my life
Into another's arms you'll soon be walking

Chorus:
Somebody shake me, wake me when it's over
Somebody tell me that I'm dreamin'
And wake me when its over

They say our love ain't what it used to be
And everyone knows but me
I close my ears not wanting to hear
But the words are loud and clear
Through these walls so thin
I hear my neighbors when
They say "She don't love him, she don't love him"
They say my heart's in danger
'Cause you're leaving me
For the love of a stranger

Chorus:
Somebody shake me, wake me somebody when it's over
Somebody tell me that I'm dreamin'
And wake me when its over

Girl you're what my heart desires
My whole world you inspire
I can't bear to be losing you
Cause I've loved you my whole life through

(music interlude)

Restlessly I pace the floor
Listening to my neighbor's criticize
What a fool I am not to realize
You don't want me by your side

As the tears stream down my face
I can't believe I've been replaced
If I've ever ever dreamed before
Somebody tell me I'm dreaming now

I said shake me, wake me somebody when its over
Somebody tell me that I'm dreaming
And wake me when its over
C'mon wake me, shake me somebody

  • I love The Four Tops! Levi was the greatest. RIP Levi

  • Levi Stubbs was a truly accomplished vocal-lead artist who shared his amazing baritone sound for the ages and which surely continues to inspire!

  • Love the Four Tops so much.. they make me happy ^_^ sometimes i wish i was born back then.. xD

  • Shake Me, Wake Me (When It's Over)" is a 1966 hit single written and produced by Holland–Dozier–Holland and released as a single by the Four Tops on the Motown label. The single talks of a man who refuses to believe that his longtime love is leaving him for another man after hearing gossip from neighbors (in this case, Four Tops members Renaldo "Obie" Benson, Abdul "Duke" Fakir and Lawrence Payton) about the woman leaving him behind his back.

  • @fitzbaby11 The composer Brian Holland was, but the 4-tops song it

  • i love this tune, does anyone know if this is a holland and dozier song. pleeze someone post an answer. thx

  • two greats the temps and tops can't beat it motowns best the tops really put it over the top with this one

  • This song is one of several that bring back memories of my Youth Club's trip to The Odeon Birmingham to see the Four Tops around 1973. It rekindles the euphoria of dancing in the aisles and singing along to the songs with your mates - a great high without the help of alcohol or drugs - just the magic of Levi Stubbs and co.

  • I just saw the Four Tops perform with the Temptations. The Four Tops actually put on a better show. I would recommend to anyone to go see them perform in concert if you have a chance. This was my favorite song from the concert.

  • what a supermassive hole there would be in our lives in Motown never existed ? thank you Tamla Motown and Berry Gordy.
